Lights, Camera, Action

I just love playing with my cousins. They create a warm, fluttery feeling in my heart. Do you feel the same way about yours? One of my favourite memories is this: I was at my cousin Dominic's house in Dunedin with my two other cousins, Grace and Laura. We were all so bored.

"Dominic what can we do? We’re so bored!" we all moaned.

"I've got it!” Dom looked at us as if he was a builder with a handy tool. “We... are... going... to... MAKE MOVIE TRAILERS!”. A flutter flew up my spine. I knew I was about to witness an astonishing memory. But then I felt my brain spark.

"Um how exactly to you make a movie trailer"?

Dom answered. "Why, we will show you! It will be easy-peasy, lemon-squeasy". Both my cousins took me by the hand while Dom led the way. They led me to a very messy room - it was Dominic's I guessed. He grabbed something square and blue. Then I got a better glimpse; it was an Ipad. They sat me in front of the iPad and showed me a video of what they had already done. They looked so pleased with themselves. My brain had gone from sparking to learning new and wonderful things. My brain had been exposed to another exciting thing and my eyes were embedded on the screen. "Wow this looks fun, I really want to do that."

We started filming in the shed. It was going all to plan, everything was working. We got a photo of my cousins sitting back and relaxing it was so funny. I was giggling on the spot. Then we started filming some stuff of me - it was mesmerising. I was sitting on a cloud of confidence. "This is so exciting" I boomed out "I can't wait to watch it!".

We were figuring out what the characters were. I was starting to love the plot. It was from the point of view of four kids: the cheerleader (Tim), homecoming queen (Grace), the class clown (Laura) and the theatre kid (ME!!!). We were videoing Tim secretly!!! We suddenly started filming in our face. I had a temptation to talk and said to the class clown "You are so weird" and then I rolled my eyes. Then they filmed Laura trying to be nice to us. It felt spectacular acting, my eyes felt like they were flickering. I knew now what we were doing. I felt I became overly dramatic.

WE ARE OFFICIALLY FINISHED

It triggered my memories as we watched the videos back. I had to convince Dom to make another, because the only thought in my head was: lets do that again!!!

  2. It was a very memorable holiday and great that you all had parts that you liked and played together happily. You extended on the movie with props for the adults and went on to make 4 more short films and a secret one for Grandad's 80th Birthday called "About a Boy'. It was very entertaining for your family and especially Grandad. I wish we brought the ipad to Toitu the Otago Settlers Museum in Dunedin because you all had costumes on and got into great role play in those sea bunks. Imagine the stories that you could make up in a place like that!
